I started reading this book by Nora Ephron very recently… actually right after her death (which was around 2 weeks ago)… I don’t know why it never occurred to me to read one of her books before even though I have always been a big fan of her movies!!!
Scribble Scribble collects the columns she wrote for Esquire from 1975 to 1977…. I found it really interesting that she described the beginnings of a phenomenon that actually dominates journalism today!!!….She described the birth of People magazine….a magazine that makes its profits by focusing on celebrity gossip and revolves around their lives!!!
I loved the way she wrote this book…. she was wickedly funny in it… and I highly recommend it.
Last night I watched You’ve Got Mail …. I forgot how much I just love this movie!
It’s one of my favorite romanic comedies…It always seems to lift my spirit when ever I watch it…Nora Ephron directed the movie and wrote the screenplay as well. I just love her movies …. She always manages to bring back old hollywood romance to the screen with a modern sense of humor. I like the choices of music in this movie… though I think that she did a much better job with the music in Sleepless in Seattle ( one of my favorite sound tracks )…
And I have to say I don’t think that there is a screen couple more perfect than Tom Hank and Meg Ryan today…
One of my favorite lines in the movie is when Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) types this on her computer:
Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life- well, a valuable , but small- and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it , or because I haven’t been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn’t it be the other way around? I don’t really want an answer. I just want to send this comic question out into the void. So good night, dear void.
Just thought that I’ll put Sleepless in Seattle as well since its directed by Nora Ephron and stars Hanks and Ryan as well…. and because I love this movie too :p
One of my favorite lines in this movie is when Tom Hanks’s character speaks to Dr Marcia on her radio show:
Dr Marcia Fieldstone: Tell me what was so special about your wife? Sam Baldwin: Well, how long is your program? ……Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together… and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home… only to no home I’d ever known… I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like… magic.
